Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) Station of GFZ

Description
To enable GNSS-independent tracking, GFZ has developed and deployed Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) retroreflectors for various LEOs. The SLR Station of the GFZ Potsdam has been continuously operating within the framework of the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) since January 2003. The method of satellite laser ranging was established in 1964 and still serves as one of the most precise space geodetic techniques with continuously improved accuracy, it provides data required for precise orbit determination and the estimation of geodetic parameters such as station coordinates or Earth orientation, which are the basis for the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF).
