Swarm

Description
The Swarm constellation includes three identical space-crafts in two different polar orbits at currently 450 km (Swarm A and B) and 510 km (Swarm C) altitudes. The Swarm satellites measure the geomagnetic field and also track electron density, temperature and electric field. Total Electron Content and thermospheric density are derived from GPS signals received by the satellite. GFZ has been engaged in the design of the Swarm core field model and Swarm Space Weather products. In the last four years, GFZ was closely involved in the production and validation of these products and contributed to the initiation of new products as, for example, part of the Swarm DISC Board of Representatives.
