EnMAP - Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program

Description
The Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) is a German hyperspectral satellite mission (planned for launch in 2020) with the purpose of monitoring and characterizing the Earth’s environment on a global scale. This satellite will acquire spectroscopic measurements of the solar light reflected from the Earth’s surface, which will be used for quantitative mapping of the land surface composition and associated parameters (e.g. vegetation pigments, mineral types and soils constituents). EnMAP is expected to be a game-changer for land remote sensing applications because of the much improved measurement accuracy and the increased number of acquisitions per day as compared to previous hyperspectral missions. GFZ is the scientific principal investigator of the joint initiative of German research institutions, commercial data product providers and the aerospace industry.
