GRACE-FO - Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment-Follow-On Mission

Description
Since GRACE recently retired at the end of its extended lifetime, GFZ is currently implementing the GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) Follow-on (GRACE-FO) mission together with NASA. It is due for launch in March 2018, thereby minimizing the gap in this valuable and unique gravity time series data. GFZ is responsible for the German mission elements including the launcher, Laser Ranging Interferometer (LRI), mission operations and Science Data System. The LRI is a technology demonstrator which will help improve the spatial and temporal resolution of future gravity missions.. The primary goal of the GRACE-FO Mission is to obtain accurate global and high-resolution models for both the static and the time variable components of the Earth's gravity field.
